Unai Emery is known as a meticulous and passionate coach, but is also known as a coach who forms strong personal bonds with his players. This is why many players have followed him when he moved from one club to another.
This has made many Arsenal fans hopeful that he can lure some high profile players who have formerly worked under him to the Emirates. This might just be wishful thinking, but if some reports are to be believed then there is a reasonable chance that some of these players will follow Emery to London.
Ever Banega is the most likely player to follow Emery to Arsenal. The Argentinean midfielder turned 30 this summer and is currently at the top of his game. That’s why it is easy to imagine that he will look for his last big contract in the next transfer window as staying in Seville for one more year might be too late for the man who has been a constant fixture in his national team recently and is actually their strongest midfielder.
Arsenal are known to have more quantity than quality in midfield and this has been immediately obvious to Emery whose first task seems to be to find a replacement for the departing Ramsey and an upgrade to Granit Xhaka. Banega seems the most likely candidate for both.
The Croatian midfield maestro has been pulling the strings in his national team and in Barcelona, but has also recently been linked to a potential blockbuster move to Arsenal. This would be similar to what happened when Mesut Ozil joined Arsenal as Rakitic is a real world class player who can take Arsenal’s play to another level.
Rakitic played under Unai Emery in Seville and he is the manager who moulded him into the player he is today. His contract runs until 2021, and with the Catalan club showing no signs that they will renew it, it starts to seem likely that the Gunners might have a chance to snap a real gem here.
Getting Fazio will not be considered as a big coup, as getting Rakitic would be for example, but it would still serve a purpose. It would be like browsing through the list of the best online casino in the UK and choosing some of the lower ranking entries. They are still quality casinos, just not as good or as popular as those ranked at the top.
The Argentinean defender’s contract runs until 2020 and like the other two players on this list, now would be the time for Emery to reunite with the player he coached in Seville during his tenure there.
Fazio has playing experience in both Spain and Italy and has got lots of European matches under his belt. He might not be the best or most talented defender out there, but he is experienced, has battled against the best, and is at least on par with Mustafi.
