This year’s Premier League season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in years, multiple teams eyeing the title whilst others are nervously looking over their shoulder at the relegation zone. The early favourites to suffer relegation this season are Cardiff and Huddersfield, according to the Premier League relegation odds currently available, following awful starts to the season.
At the other end of the table, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool have all made impressive starts to the season, with the latter really impressing the pundits. Liverpool have experienced their best start to a Premier League season in years and are among the favourites to lift their first top division trophy in 29 years! The Merseyside club have slowly been building their squad into one of the most feared in the country, thanks to Jürgen Klopp.
The German manager joined the club in October 2015 following two lengthy spells in Germany with Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund.
Klopp secured his first job in management in 2001 following the sacking of Eckhard Krautzun. At the time of his appointment Mainz were struggling in 2. Bundesliga and were in serious danger of relegation. At 33 years old, Klopp was one of the youngest coaches in German football but he managed to keep the team clear of relegation. Over the next few years Klopp helped Mainz, the club that he spent the majority of his playing career with, to promotion, and even managed to achieve qualification for the 2005-06 UEFA Cup.
Although his Mainz side was eventually relegated, it did lead to the Borussia Dortmund job where he made a name for himself, winning two league titles, three cup competitions, and reached the final of the Champions League. Following his spell with Dortmund, he left the club and joined Liverpool later on in the year.
There’s no doubt that Klopp is one of the most successful coaches in the modern game, but he might also be the most eccentric. His humorous antics on the touchline often grabs the attention of the fans, and his post-game quotes usually make the headlines. Over the years Klopp has made some truly sensational quotes, but can you remember exactly what he said? Take this quiz and find out.
