Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in a new defensive midfielder to replace the injured Francis Coquelin who is side-lined till March next year.
The French man has been pivotal to Arsenals fantastic start to the season with commanding display in front of the midfield; standing like a shield. The Gunners would face a hard time without Coquelin who has helped Santi Carzola to play further in the Arsenal attack.
Arsenal will try to sign Lars Bender from Bayern Leverkusen in January. The 26 years old is believed to be Arsene Wenger’s ideal midfield target as he looks to bring in reinforcement. Mikel Arteta moved from Everton and could also play as a defensive midfielder; but he came on for the injured Coquelin against West Brom and gave away the free kick that led to the Baggies equalizer then went on to score an own goal to give all three points to West Brom. He is no longer the same player signed from Everton years ago as age has cut up with him coupled with his consistent injuries.
Flamini is also an alternative; the French man is in his second spell at the club after leaving the Gunners to join Serie A giants’ AC Milan. The move didn’t pay off as expected as Flamini struggled to hold down a regular spot in the team. He re-joined the Gunners at the expiration of his contract on a free.
Bender is the captain of Bayern Leverkusen and won’t be an easy acquisition for the Gunners; he is contracted to the German side till 2019 and would make a fantastic addition to Arsenal.
Bayern are also reported to be interested in Bender, so the Gunners need to step up their interest with a substantial bid when the widow opens in January.
