Arsene Wenger and his men went into the game against Alan Pardew’s Eagles on the back of a depressing 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Hammers last weekend. But the Gunners overcame the trauma with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.
The home side did put in a fight in the first half after they pulled level with the Gunners before heading into the break. Though the Arsenal defense did a better job the whole game compared to last week’s disjointed performance.
The Gunners midfield also saw a bit of fluidity and stability as the pair of Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin controlled the game well.
Going forward, there were improvements in the Arsenal attack with several chances created, and even though only a few where converted, Olivier Giroud’s one-time volley for the first goal did prove to be an improvement in our conversion rate.
Here are the ratings.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: 6
Was a very needed change as he brought on him freshness with his pace and power, taking the game to the Eagles.
Mikel Arteta: 6
The captain’s contribution to the team today showed why Wenger still has faith in him.
Kieran Gibbs: 5
Gibbs did exactly what he was brought on to do. To provide more cover for the Arsenal defence.
