WENGER REVEALS WHY ARSENAL DID NOT WANT TO PLAY WEST BROM

Following Arsenal’s triumph over West Brom on Boxing day, Arsene Wenger has revealed why facing the Baggies was the worst possible tie for the Gunners.

Although, Arsenal were able to grind out a 1-0 win against the Baggies, it took a late effort from Giroud to secure all three points.

West Brom came with a game plan to frustrate us in the game. Pulis set up his team to defend deep and close down spaces which almost got them the desired result until four minutes from time.

And in his post match press conference, Wenger lauded the team’s performances and claimed playing West Brom after back to back defeats wasn’t the easiest thing to do but he said claiming all three points was the most important thing

“Of course it was vital,” Wenger said about the win.

“But you’re under pressure before the game. It’s exactly the tie you don’t want, West Brom. You’re under pressure, you know they defend deep, they are well-organised, they are resilient – we are super- favourites. And you can just have a big problem if you don’t win the game because mentally of course, if you don’t win for three games, it’s always difficult.

“Although I think we lost two games under very special circumstances.”

The win ensured we kept our title hopes alive. Arsenal currently sit fourth, nine points behind league leaders Chelsea with the second half of the season yet to commence.
