Reports emerging from Turkey according to The Metro, suggest Arsenal striker Joel Campbell is close to sealing a move to Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas after agreeing terms with the club.
Campbell who was an outstanding member of the brilliant Costa Rican team at the World Cup last summer, had failed to break into the Gunner’s first team squad and was subsequently loaned out to La-liga side Villarreal for the second half of last season where he again failed to cement a regular place in the team.
And despite his limited playing time at Villarreal, Besiktas are convinced of his abilities and reports suggest a deal for the 23-year-old forward could be completed in a matter of days.
Arsenal is believed to have accepted a fee in the region of £3.5million and Campbell is said to have agreed personal terms with the Turkish outfit.
Besiktas are seeking to bolster their attacking options this summer, after last season’s top scorer Demba Ba left them to join Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua and manager Senol Gunes believes Campbell is the right man to fill Ba’s boots. The final decision however rests with Campbell if the deal is to sail through.
Campbell joined Arsenal from Deportivo Saprissa in 2011 and has spent the last three seasons on loan to various clubs. He only saw 40 minutes of Premier League action with the Gunners last season.
