Leicester 1 – 1 Arsenal
We all follow the Arsenal, over land and sea. And Leicester. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon, and Arsenal were – as always – in pursuit of all three points.
The game started slowly, with neither side offering up much in the final third.
Perhaps it was Arsenal first real chance in the twentieth minute which bore fruit though. Cazorla dinked a lovely ball over the top for Sanogo, who managed to poked the ball to Alexis in the middle of the goal mouth. The Chilean smashed it home.
Arsenal’s lead was short-lived though.
It took Leicester just two minutes to hit back, as a cross found Ulloa in the box, with Koscielny poorly positioned. The striker headed past Szczesney, and Arsenal found themselves back at square one.
Koscielny must have been feeling the effects of a previous head-collision, because shortly after conceding, he was replaced by Chambers.
The rest of the half was much like the opening few minutes. A few half chances, but nothing to write home about.
Ramsey, Ozil and Sanchez were all stuck in second gear, and Sanogo just wasn’t taking his chances.
Unfortunately, the second half was exactly the same. From start to bloody finish.
Leicester were defending superbly, whilst Arsenal were looking toothless. Ramsey, Ozil and Sanchez were all stuck in second gear, and Sanogo just wasn’t taking his chances.
The clock ticked and ticked and ticked, until the final whistle blew. It was a poor performance, mainly due to a poorly laid out team, and a stern Leicester defence.
Arsenal Player Ratings
Made a couple of good saved, distribution was good, and could do nothing for the goal.
Not one of his better performances. Had almost no impact going forward, and Leicester enjoyed their time down his flank going forward.
Could have worked harder in the build up to Leicester’s goal. Otherwise, he was solid.
Had a nasty head-collision and was cleary dazed. Conceded not long after losing track of Ulloah. Subbed.
Looked vulnerable at the back, and didn’t offer enough going forwards.
Did okay, but simply couldn’t match up the physical presence of Leicester at times. We need an enforcer.
Missing pre-season and being played wide-left will not produce good results. We need to stop sacrificing Ozil for Cazorla and play Mesut where he deserves to be played.
Madea few tasty passes behind the Leicester defence, and looked energetic. But as the ACM, he needed to do more with what he had. We had plenty of possession, but chances were few and far between.
Poor show from Aaron today. Didn’t produce his usual bursts into the box, looked tired and clumsy on the ball.
Alexis: [7/10] – MOTM
Looked like our most dangerous attacker, and did very well to grab his goal. The delivery wasn’t always there for him, but he worked hard anyway.
Heavy touches and poor finishes. We shouldn’t be throwing him into such games head on. Save him for the Cups, play Alexis up top instead. Made some good runs though.
The Ox: [7/10]
Mae powerful runs when on the ball, but couldn’t produce much.
Leicester were tactically brilliant today. They closed Ramsey, Cazorla, Alexis and Ozil down time and time again, stunting our attacks.
However, Arsene didn’t help us. Sanogo up front in spite of Alexis? Cazorla in the middle in spite of Ozil? Utter madness.
We need to add a defensive midfield enforcer, and change the lay out of our team, if we are to challenge. Another striker wouldn’t hurt either.
The transfer window remains open, for just a few hours now. Get your poker chips out, Arsene.
